In honour of the City of Oshawa’s 100th Anniversary, the Oshawa Camera Club (OCC) is hosting a public photo contest.
Celebrate and show the vibrancy and diversity that Oshawa has to offer through photos. This free photo contest is open to all amateur photographers. All photos must be taken in the City of Oshawa. Prizes will be awarded at a Gala showcasing the winning photos later this year. Winning photos will be displayed on the Oshawa Camera Club’s website.
DISCLAIMER: Photos submitted to this contest will be given over to the City of Oshawa for future promotional and archival use. The photographer retains all ownership and rights to the photo. By submitting your photo, you are giving the City of Oshawa the approval to use the photo for their purposes only. Let your photo become part of a historical archival record.
GENERAL CRITERIA
Must be taken within the City of Oshawa limits (see FAQs)
Does not have to be taken in 2024
Open to any age group
Does not have to be taken at an anniversary event
Amateur photographers
No professional photographers (less than 50% income by photography)
Photojournalism style* Black & White or Colour
Limited editing and alteration. No creative processing or manipulation.*
Digital Files only. Jpegs, 4 MB size limit
Cannot be AI generated in whole or in parts
Given an appropriate Title to entries
Do not have to live in Oshawa to participate
Can submit up to 3 photos in each/any of the three categories
Photos will not be disqualified if entered in wrong category

JUDGING
Photos will be judged by senior members of the Oshawa Camera Club trained in judging. The judges will be looking for:
• Highest consideration – Does the photo tell a strong story with a focus on Oshawa and does the strength of the story impact the viewer to say wow
• Second consideration – Technical quality of the photo, is it sharp and in focus
• Third consideration – Does it have a clear subject or point of focus of the story, or is the photo too busy and cluttered making it confusing
Tip: Photos that are identifiable as being in Oshawa will score higher (i.e. low score – a close-up of a flower vs. high score – a flower that is identifiable at an Oshawa facility or the Oshawa event like the Peony Festival).
File Requirements
• Only digital files will be accepted.
• All files will need to be in JPEG format (.jpg or .jpeg)
• Maximum file size must be within 2500×2500 pixels, no larger than 4 mb.
• Winners will be contacted to provide a final high resolution file suitable for printing. Print to be displayed at the Gala.
