Black & White photography is more than just removing colour—it’s a distinct and powerful artistic approach that emphasizes light, shadow, texture, and emotion. While we use the same cameras and editing tools as colour photography, the way we see, compose, and interpret an image in black & white is fundamentally different.
In this 7-session series, we’ll explore what makes a compelling B&W image, diving into topics such as contrast, composition, subject choice, and more. I’ll share my personal approach and present a range of images to illustrate key photographic elements that define striking and timeless monochrome work.
These interactive sessions will include image reviews (you’ll be asked to submit photos for each meeting), group discussions, and—new this season—a dedicated photo walk to help sharpen your B&W vision. We’ll wrap up with the creation of an AV presentation for the OCC PhotoEx on May 12.
