OCC Policy for Participation in Competitions

When OCC members submit images for any club or interclub competition they do so knowing that OCC will use the best judges we are able to find. The judges evaluate our images using their training and experience to the best of their ability with the intent to fairly evaluate and score our images and to provide helpful comments for the maker of the images.

We are able to make requests to judges which include our base score, and request them to comment on certain mages. We do not have control over the scores or comments that each judge makes. Nor do we intend to censor scores or comments.

Therefore, when any member of the Oshawa Camera Club submits an image in any club or interclub competition through the OCC website, they must do so knowing that the scores and comments of the judges will be in the club meeting slideshows and be put online on the club website. Generally if a maker does not request a comment for their image the judge will not make one. If a judge feels that an image deserves a comment, constructive advice, or has a strong opinion on it, they are free to do so even if a comment is not requested.

If any member feels that they may be offended by a score or comment that outweighs the learning opportunity they will receive by having their image evaluated then they should take that into account prior to submitting images into competitions. Images are judged anonymously by the judges and any critique received should not be taken personally.

In addition we do not censor the content of member’s images submitted for competitions. Any image that is not illegal is admissible in our competitions and may be viewed in club meetings, expositions and on our website. Although we do allow images with nudity, that are legal. If such images are considered by the Competition Committee to be Pornographic they may be also disqualified.

The Oshawa Camera Club does takes steps to ensure a fair and controlled judging process. However, scores, comments, whether requested or not, are the result of this process and when a picture is submitted it is deemed to have the maker’s permission to be adjudicated in the manner described above.

Maker retains full copyright of all submitted content (entries, photo essays, prints and files). Images, Prints & Photo essays submitted to the Club gives the Club express approval for publication, education purposes, presentation and/or use in promotional material for the Club. By submitting content, you acknowledge and agree to the terms.
