Creative

  • Image must show some evidence of the original photograph(s) that was used as a base for the creative/altered reality image.
  • Defined as images that can be created in-camera or in post-processing. All elements must be in-camera or post-processing work of the maker. In this category creativity must be obvious to the viewer. Substantial post processing by the maker that generates an image that looks like it may be out of camera is not considered “creative”.
  • Creative images look like they may be out of camera but logic says the maker has included creative and artistic in-camera and post-processing to achieve the final image.
  • Altered Reality images don’t look real and are clearly not a single out of camera image. They contain significant post processing work by the maker and may look like they belong in a fantasy.
  • Manipulation of the base photograph(s) may be altered as desired as long as the final image still retains a component(s) that is identifiable as a photograph.
  • Use of filters, plug-ins, special effects, and montages is acceptable.
  • For composites, the manipulation should be seamless but reflect strong creative elements.
  • Acceptable images can be abstracts, altered reality, creative concepts.
  • Wildlife is allowed if it is out of its natural element, obviously manipulated or is presented as an artistic interpretation.
