OCC Outing: Reptilia, Whitby. January 26th

We have been invited to a photo opportunity at the new Whitby Reptilia.

The cost is $30 per person and we have booked from 8am-9am on Saturday January 26.

Reptilia will be setting up a natural backdrop in their theatre and will provide a frog, snake, Lizard and Spider for our photographing pleasure. At 9 am we will be getting a private tour (30 mins) of the site where we can take photos of the reptiles in their enclosures. We suggest that if you have a way to shoot through glass that will eliminate glare that you bring those tools with you for the tour.

We have room for 10 people with a potential for 10 more from 9-10 but we would need at least the extra ten to keep costs down.

OCCC’s Policy on Use of Flash in Nature Entries

OCCC’s Policy on Use of Flash in Nature Entries

To all OCCC Judges, Judges in Training and Competition Directors
Nature photographers, bird watchers and photographic judges are engaged in an ongoing controversy regarding the use of flash for photographing wildlife – birds in particular. Everyone agrees that the protection and preservation of wildlife is paramount, however it is also important that wildlife scoring follows a fact based, consistent approach to ensure fairness – both real and perceived.

Recognizing that opinions differ regarding the use of flash – and therefore scoring has often been inconsistent with some judges deducting points for the use of flash while others do not. The Ontario Council of Camera Clubs is providing ethical guidance for our members and a policy for our judges that is fact based and well researched.

Please download the full PDF document here for reading: OCCC Nature Flash Policy

We would appreciate your feedback on this topic. If you have any questions regarding this OCCC policy, please don’t hesitate to contact Norm Ullock Judge Chair, or Bharat Mistry, OCCC President.
