Bill Peel : 1948-2018

It’s a sad time at the OCC. A long time member and big supporter of the OCC has passed away.
Bill Peel lost his battle with Cancer on August 16th, 2018.
Bill had joined the OCC in 2010 and over the years was involved in many ways in the growth of the club as a Program Director, Vice President and his involvement in the Annual Salon and PhotoEx Committee. He was always a source of ideas of how to get all the members involved in with the outings, workshops, Explora groups and club events. He was proud to have been recently accredited as a GTCCC Photo Judge.
His passion for travel and photography was only exceeded by his curiosity to know and learn about everyone he met.
At this time, his family is holding a private service in his honour. We will forward you details on an public service as they become available.
Please see here for further details:
Bill leaves us with these departing words:

“Time to say goodbye. I passed away peacefully with my close family beside me. My next journey has begun. Sure hope they have bridge cards. Love to you all. Cheers Bill.”

InFocus Photo Competition

Disclaimer: This is no way related to the Oshawa Camera Club InFocus Newsletter.

It’s just a FYI of a Canadian Competition that may interest you.

The 5th annual InFocus Photo Exhibition is coming up soon and I am so excited to be reaching out to the Oshawa Camera Club! A major focus of our event is to promote professional and amateur photographers from across Canada!

We know that most camera clubs have e-newsletters and we were wondering if you would you be able to include info about InFocus in your next newsletter? Our event includes a variety of programming on top of the photo exhibition. We host a portfolio review, a PechaKucha style event, as well as our opening reception! It would be so wonderful if you could help us promote these events.

Here is a bit of information on the upcoming show and events:
– The show will be taking place during the month of February 2019
– The event is taking place at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel
– The Emerging Photographer Award sponsored by PhotoED Magazine will be won by a photographer 5 years or less into their career
– All successful photographers will be eligible to participate in the People’s Choice Award online voting with cash prize from Vistek

lnFocus welcomes Canadian photographers of any level — amateurs and students to professionals alike — to enter. The deadlines are quickly approaching:

Early-bird deadline: August 29, 2018
($28 per entry of 3 images)
Regular deadline: October 22, 2018
($38 per entry of 3 images)
Extended deadline: November 7, 2018
($48 per entry of 3 images)

The theme of InFocus 2019 is “Connection“. This is a broad theme, open to interpretation. Please answer here how your image(s) relate to this theme. We want you to tell us how your photography demonstrates “Connection”. How do we connect with nature? How do we connect with each other? How do we connect with ourselves?
