These notes are a summary of what I discussed at the January 8th meeting.
Talk to me when you see me if I can be of help with any of this.

Having Your own web site

  1. Not free - $50 to $100 per year - with a .com domain name such as www.yourname.com (add another $15-$20 per year for a .ca domain name - eg. www.yourname.ca)
  2. Your domain name is unique - the company will check it's availability for you - online.
  3. You have complete control over your site's design and content. eg. How your photos are displayed, do you want to include a blog? video? chat?
  4. You need to set up your entire site but there is lots of software to help you.
  5. There's a definite "learning curve" involved.

Photo Sharing Sites

eg. Flickr
  1. Most are free - some may offer more features, storage, etc. for a fee.
  2. Minimal setup required on your part.
  3. May already include a "guest comments" feature, count of visitors, count of views per photo, etc.
  4. Some have many millions of users. eg. PhotoBucket claims 38 million users
  5. PBase.com is not free (about $23 per year for the basic amount of storage space) but it is very popular with photographers. PBase
